Overview

The project

OneStopDIY sells a broad range of DIY tools, consumables, accessories and equipment for home and trade-related use.

More than a decade supporting the same eCommerce business through multiple platform generations, catalogue growth, marketplace expansion and ongoing technical development.

My involvement has extended far beyond a single website build, combining technical direction with the day-to-day development of a large catalogue and its wider sales channels.

Platform evolution

The business originally operated on Magento 1, later migrated to Magento 2, and then moved to WordPress and WooCommerce when greater flexibility became a priority.

I was involved in the technical direction and recommendations around these platform changes as the client's requirements evolved.

    Magento 2

  3. Step 3

An approximately 12,000-product catalogue

Catalogue work covered the setup, structure and ongoing maintenance of approximately 12,000 products, preparing information for both the website and marketplace channels.

Four eBay accounts and international selling

A major part of the project involved distributing products across four eBay accounts. The wider catalogue was managed and listed across multiple accounts, with international listings across markets including the UK, Europe and the Americas. The business also ships internationally.

Amazon and evolving marketplace integration

Products have also been sold through Amazon, providing an additional marketplace channel alongside eBay.

Marketplace integration evolved from M2E Pro to M2E Cloud, supporting the connection between the product catalogue and external eBay and Amazon sales channels.

Marketplace pricing and margin management

Marketplace pricing formulas were used to ensure products could be sold through eBay and Amazon while remaining within the client's defined margin requirements. Channel-specific pricing logic accounted for marketplace fees, product margins and profitability considerations.

SEO and AEO across the catalogue

Ongoing SEO and AEO work covered the website and product catalogue. Product content was written and structured with SEO and AEO in mind, alongside technical improvements to page setup and information hierarchy.

  • Catalogue structure
  • SEO-focused product content
  • AEO-focused content

  • Search-friendly page setup

AI-assisted product content

AI-assisted workflows were used to improve and restructure product content across a catalogue of thousands of products, making large-scale optimisation significantly more practical. Work included improving existing descriptions, restructuring product information and increasing clarity and consistency while supporting SEO and AEO.

Bulk image processing

Product imagery was also processed at scale, with bulk image manipulation used to prepare and standardise assets across a large catalogue for website and marketplace use.
