Web development

Website speed and performance

Website speed and performance work finds what is actually making your pages slow, fixes the parts worth fixing and measures the result under stated test conditions. It suits sites where slow product or landing pages are costing enquiries and sales.

When this helps

Problems this solves

  • Pages that take several seconds before anything useful appears.
  • Layout that jumps around while images and fonts load.
  • A plugin, script or tag stack nobody has audited.
  • Performance advice that was applied blindly and made no difference.

Scope

What's included

Every quote lists the deliverables in writing, so there is no ambiguity about what you receive.

Deliverables

  • Baseline measurement on agreed page types, with the test conditions recorded.
  • Diagnosis of the real bottlenecks: server response, render blocking, images, scripts or database queries.
  • Image, font and asset optimisation, including sizing, formats and loading priorities.
  • Caching and delivery review, covering platform caching and CDN configuration.
  • Third-party script and tag audit, with recommendations on what to defer or remove.
  • After measurement under the same conditions, with the before-and-after reported honestly.

Not included as standard

  • No specific score is promised; scores vary by test conditions and device.
  • Where hosting is the limiting factor, I say so rather than optimise around it indefinitely.
  • Removing marketing tags needs your approval, since it affects measurement.

Anything here can be added to the scope and priced separately.

Process

How the work runs

  1. Step 1

    Measure

Record a baseline on real pages with the conditions documented.

  2. Step 2

    Diagnose

Identify the causes, separating quick wins from structural issues.

  3. Step 3

    Implement

Apply the agreed fixes, verifying nothing else breaks.

  4. Step 4

    Re-measure

Repeat the same tests and report what genuinely changed.

What I need from you

  • Site, hosting and CDN access.
  • A list of the page types that matter commercially.
  • Confirmation of which third-party scripts are genuinely required.

What changes the price

  • Platform and hosting environment.
  • Number of page types in scope.
  • Whether the theme or template can be modified.
  • How much of the problem is third-party code.
